There is a general misunderstanding in today’s church concerning the prophetic. The Greek word for prophecy means to ‘speak forth’ and to prophesy is to hear from God and then to speak what is heard to build up, comfort or encourage, thereby edifying others; it can also be used to reprove and admonish. God continues to speak to His people today through various methods, for example through a word of knowledge, a picture or the discernment of spirits; these all come under the umbrella of the prophetic. The prophetic is a gift of the Spirit but is seldom sought after by the believer. The Apostle Paul writing to the church at Corinth desired that all would prophesy and he put more value on the prophetic than speaking in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:5). The aim of this ministry is to encourage believers of The Life Church to seek the gift of prophecy and develop personal prophetic ministries by creating an environment where individuals can safely share what they are hearing from God and apply interpretation to God’s revelation. The ultimate aim being to strengthen and build up God’s people and make them more effective for Jesus in their day to day lives.
